Statements by Prime Minister Viorica Dancila at the start of the Cabinet meeting

08 June

Viorica Dancila: Good afternoon. I paid a visit to Portugal where I had meetings with the Portuguese President and Prime Minister. I put emphasis on developing the privileged relationship between Romania and Portugal, relationship marked one year ago by the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations and this year by events linked to the Centenary of the Greater Union.

I agreed with the Prime Minister Antonio Costa to draw up a roadmap of intergovernmental cooperation between Romania and Portugal. Agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed, which enables drawing up joint projects in areas such as: research, innovation and healthcare.

The discussion agenda also comprised issues relative to European cooperation. We discussed about Romania’s taking over the presidency of the Council of the EU, starting January 1, 2019, we discussed shared topics of the European agenda and last but not least, about a common approach regarding the common agricultural policy or the cohesion policy.

I appreciated the constructive attitude of Portuguese authorities regarding the Romanian community in Portugal.

I want to salute Wednesday’s vote in the Chamber of Deputies, on the creation of the Sovereign Fund for Development and Investment. It is an important project, assumed through the Programme for Government and a concept which is already working in several European states, and not only.

I want to announce the drawing up of the „Centenar” state titles for population, with an interest rate of over 25 percent for five years, therefore, over 4.5 percent per year. The "Centenar" state titles can be purchased through the Treasury or the Romanian Post Office.

I would like to congratulate the Ministry of Economy and Transgaz for the start early this week of the construction works to the BRUA pipeline. It is a project backed by the European Commission, where European funds are being used, a project of national and regional interest. It will make a significant contribution to increasing gas supply security.

Starting Monday, all taxes and duties owed to ANAF will be paid through CEC Bank units. By the end of this year, CEC Bank will not charge any fees. It is about taxes due by individuals, irrespective of whether or not they have a CEC account. Passport fees can also be paid at the same CEC Bank, under the same conditions, in the 1,000 CEC units.

We will adopt the methodological norms for public procurement on today’s meeting. We make an important step in simplifying public procurement legislation. I think we can unblock very important projects for Romania's development.

The Spokesperson for the Government will detail the normative acts adopted on today's meeting, at the close of the Cabinet meeting.
