Statements by Prime Minister Viorica Dancila at the start of the Cabinet meeting

21 June

Viorica Dăncilă: Good afternoon. Large amounts of rain fell in many areas of the country over the last few hours , and heavy rainfall is forecast in several counties in the following hours. I call on the Ministry of Interior, the Inspectorate for Emergencies, to act to prevent floods and protect the population in the exposed areas.

This week, I received good news from the European Commissioner Corina Cretu. The financing worth more than EUR 246 million, from the Cohesion Fund, for the construction of the Târgu Mureş - Campia Turzii highway was approved. I want to emphasize the importance of this project, as it is part of the Rhine-Danube Corridor 9, linking Strasbourg to Constanta, within the pan-European transport network.

I presented yesterday, in the plenum of the two Chambers of Parliament, the state of preparedness and the topics of interest underpinning the work programme of the Romanian presidency of the Council of the EU. The thorough preparation of the takeover and exercise of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU, starting January 1, 2019 is a priority for the Romanian Government. We need the Parliament’support, the commitment of all Romania’s representatives in European institutions, to ensure a successful mandate, which would take into account the large –scale processes shaping the European Union and also the current challenges awaiting a response on our part.

As you know, I had several meetings with counterparts and high officials from several EU member states- Estonia, Lithuania, Portugal, Poland and Croatia. On this occasion, I noticed the joint preoccupation with coping with major challenges facing the European project.

Meanwhile, I want to salute the fact that the Chamber of the Deputies, decisional Chamber, passed the draft law on combating domestic violence. I would like to thank the Parliament for passing in emergency procedure this draft law we adopted early in our term of office. There are good regulations, adjusted to reality and social changes. It is for the first time that the legislation defines psychological, social and spiritual violence. It also regulates the Provisional Protection Order, allowing the police officer to quickly intervene in cases of imminent danger. Hopefully, this draft law enjoys the same attention upon promulgation too, so that the new provisions can be implemented as soon as possible.

The Government Decision on the approval of the substantiation note regarding the necessity of the expenses incurred by the "Integrated Information System" project for the issuance of civil status documents. The overall objective of this project is a computerized filling system for the registration and effective release of the civil status documents. Among the benefits of this project, there are the following: cutting through red tape, electronically centralizing information on historical civil status documents over the past 100 years. The total value of the project amounts to 184,921,000 lei. The project was submitted for funding under the Competitiveness Operational Project, Priority Axis 2, Information and Communication Technology.

I would like to thank you for attending, the Spokesperson will later detail the legislative documents debated during today’s meeting. Thank you.
