Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos has met with the European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Gunther Hermann Oettinger

Today, Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos has had a meeting with the European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Gunther Hermann Oettinger. The Commissioner’s visit focused on a better knowledge of the specific situation of the telecommunications in Romania and the progress our country has achieved in attaining the objectives of the Single Digital Market and the Digital Agenda.

The discussions between the Head of the Executive and the European Commissioner have addressed themes of common interest for the EU Member States, such as: the Single Digital Market and cyber security.

Within the Single Digital Market, Romania has been pursuing several lines towards bridging the digital gap between our country and the other European countries, the digitization of the public administration and increase in the number of jobs in the digital sector. Likewise, Romania intends to foster investments in the electronic communications infrastructure and the development of the IT research and innovation sector.

Other important topic addressed by the two officials has been the cyber security and cyber criminology, considering that in the current regional context, Romania could play an increasingly important role regarding the cyber security for the states in its neighborhood.
