Prime Minister Mihai Tudose: The objectives of the cohesion policy perfectly overlap with Romania’s development interests

Prime Minister Tudose welcomed a delegation led by the President of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) Karl-Heinz Lambertz, at Victoria Palace, today. Minister -delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu and State Advisers Felix Rache and Florin Vodita also attended the meeting.

The message sent to the CoR officials focused on the importance of the European Cohesion Policy for Romania and meeting the Government’s objectives to attract funds through the funding programmes for regional development and cohesion.

Romania is the first country that Karl-Heinz Lambertz is visiting as president of the European Committee of the Regions, and this was deemed as an important signal for our country by Prime Minister Tudose.

“The objectives of the European Committee of the Regions perfectly overlap with Romania’s development interests through the Cohesion Policy of the European Union. I assure you that Romania will continue to be a stable and serious partner, and our efforts will continue towards the efficient use of the funds allocated from the budget of the European Union,” stated Prime Minister Mihai Tudose.

Prime Minister Tudose and Minister -delegate for European Affairs Negrescu pointed out the steps taken by Romania in attracting European funds, expressing their support for the idea of an aliance for cohesion, with the EU member states, initiated by the Committee of the Regions.

Moreover, given Romania’s first mandate at the presidency of the EU Council in the first semester of 2019, Prime Minister Mihai Tudose and Minister –delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu emphasized that our country already addressed with responsibility the forthcoming task incumbent upon it  as President of the Council of the EU, when an important responsibility is the cohesion policy management including.

They also discussed about the importance of the cohesion policy even in the context of major challenges Europe is facing at present, such as: the migration phenomenon and the security issues, and they also discussed about the need for correlating the provisions of the Stability Pact with the major development and investment needs of the regions.

Other topic addressed was the need for a greater involvement of local administrations in the economic development of Europe’s regions.
