Consultations between the Government and the transporters’ representatives

The Secretary -General of the Government Toni Greblă and the Head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery Costin Mihalache alongside the representatives of the Transport Ministry and the Regional Development Ministry, met today at the seat of the Government with the representatives of the Confederation of Licensed Romanian Operators and Transporters(COTAR).

The talks focused on measures needed to combat piracy in the road passenger transport sector and to regulate some road passenger transport activities. During the consultations, it was agreed to include several proposals made by road transport employers in the draft emergency ordinance on introducing certain measures in the field of road transport and amending Law no.38/2003 on taxi transport and rental, drawn up by the Regional Development and the Transport Ministry.

One of these proposals seeks to eliminate the term "repeatedly" which appears in the taxi transport law, an amendment designed to help eliminate "piracy" from the road passenger transport. Likewise, it was agreed to transfer the rent-a-car activity to the Romanian Road Authority, and to extend the inter-county road passenger schedule.

The talks followed yesterday’s meeting with the representatives of the Federation of Romanian Transport Operators (FORT), in which Transport Minister Razvan Cuc also participated, the Romanian Government thus reaffirming its openness to constructive dialogue with all the stakeholders, so that the legislation would offer all the levers required to fight piracy in the field of road passenger transport, as well as safe transport services of quality.

The draft emergency ordinance on establishing certain measures in the field of road transport was published for public consultation on March 1, on the websites of the two Ministries, and is currently in the inter-ministerial approval circuit, set to be approved during the next Cabinet meeting.
