Joint infrastructure projects, on the agenda of talks between representatives of the Romanian Government and the World Bank

Road infrastructure as well as legal and healthcare infrastructures were the main topics addressed during the meeting that Vice Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu had with a World Bank delegation.

Vice Prime Minister Ciolacu emphasized the Romanian Government’s interest and openness to work with the World Bank, as well as the good collaboration between the two institutions.

Marcel Ciolacu showed that investment is Government’s priority, context in which he reminded that the Executive’s aim for 2018 is their increase by 20 percent, compared to 2017.

The Romanian official also stated that from the point of view of public interest, investments in road infrastructure are of paramount importance.

„We intend to make amendments to public procurement legislation in order that road infrastructure projects could be implemented faster, easier and that Romania could develop in this field, in the same pace as the countries in the region”, stated Vice Prime Minister Ciolacu.

Transport Minister Felix Stroe, present at the meeting, stated that within the Ministry, the Project Management Unit for construction of Ploiesti –Brasov motorway, is in the process of being achieved, a model which, if it meets the expected results, will be expanded.

Another topic discussed was the collaboration of the World Bank with the Ministry of Justice, on projects focusing on facilitating access to justice, the construction of the Justice District being extremely generous in this respect, both in its financial dimension and in its aim to bring together all the judicial institutions in Bucharest in one area.

In his turn, World Bank Vice President Cyril Muller highlighted the very good collaboration in the fields of health and justice.

Other topics discussed included education, pertaining to the implementation of dual education and the coordination between education and the labor market, as well as the promotion of the draft law on public-private partnership.

Minister of Justice Tudorel Toader, Minister of Public Finance Ionuţ Mişa, Minister-delegate for European Funds Marius Nica, Secretary of State Florin Vodita and State Advisor Dana Mocanu also attended the meeting.
