Address by Prime Minister Mihai Tudose at ”Trade Winds”

Excellencies,

Distinguished members of the diplomatic corps,

Ladies and gentlemen,

I wish you and I spoke from my heart, warm welcome to Romania! I hope you are coming to stay, your business or a big part of it to stay in Romania.

Romania is one of the proudest nations in the EU, today, when we pride ourselves on the highest economic growth rate. We are proud of our European belonging, our partnership with the European Union and our partnership with NATO and of the 20th anniversary of Strategic Partnership with the United States of America.

We have a great deal in Romania to offer from potential in the agricultural area to the extraordinary potential in the high-tech industry and IT, moving on to industrial production, where again we pride ourselves on an increase of 8 percent compared to the last year.

I am convinced that the presence in Romania of some American companies, of some world-renowned US companies- and I would mention just what has happened in recent months, along with His Excellency, Ambassador Klemm, I met with representatives of Ford, Raytheon, General Dynamics, Bell Helicopters, without intending to omit others, I have just mentioned some of those that have come at the Government over the last two months, or both at Government and Embassy.

I am sure that the presence in Romania of these large American companies that have come, invested and transferred know-how is a good example and a statement of the US business environment to Romania. I think your efforts, the efforts of the Department of Commerce, and the efforts of my colleagues in the Romanian Government will produce results, I take this opportunity to thank the US Embassy to Romania,  and Mr. Hans Klemm particularly, for their efforts, and perhaps in ten more years, we may gather to take stock, to gladly remember this major event in Romania's economic life, and its relations with the US, a stock-taking moment when we should be proud of what we have started doing today.

I would like to thank you for being here and to wish you good luck!

PRESS RELEASE

Prime Minister Tudose: Romania has very much to offer in the economic field

Prime Minister Mihai Tudose attended today the opening of the Business Development Conference, part of Trade Winds 2017, the largest governmental trade mission in the history of the South-East European region.

“Romania is one of the proudest nations in the EU. We pride ourselves on the highest economic growth rate. We are proud of our partnership with the European Union and our partnership with NATO and of the 20th anniversary of Strategic Partnership with the United States of America. We have a great deal in Romania to offer from potential in the agricultural area to the extraordinary potential in the high-tech industry and IT, moving on to industrial production, where again we pride ourselves on an increase of 8 percent compared to last year”, Prime Minister Mihai Tudose stated.

The Head of the Executive welcomed the presence in Romania of some of the world-renowned American companies such as Ford, Raytheon, General Dynamics, Bell Helicopters that invested, and transferred know-how, and he deemed it a good example and a “statement of the US business environment for Romania”.

Prime Minister Mihai Tudose voiced conviction that this major event in Romania's economic life - the Trade Winds 2017 held in Bucharest - will yield long-term concrete results.

The Government of Romania, in partnership with the United States Department of Commerce, organized the Business Development Conference, part of Trade Winds 2017, in Bucharest from 18 to 20 October.

Trade Winds is an American trade mission whose purpose is to connect US and foreign companies to create business partnerships.

About 100 American companies have come to Bucharest and have had contacts with over 215 Romanian companies, an opportunity for these companies to develop joint projects.

The US Department of Commerce's initiative to hold the 10th edition of Trade Winds in Romania and in four other Southeast European countries - Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece and Serbia – proves the importance the US Administration attaches to this region and, especially, to our country. The Government of Romania approached this economic forum with due importance and offered support to the US Embassy and the Commerce Department.
