PM Mihai Tudose’s meeting with the Ambassador of Germany to Bucharest, H. E. Cord Meier –Klodt - a sign of the importance of the bilateral relation


Prime Minister had today, at Victoria Palace, a meeting with Ambassador of Germany to Bucharest, H. E. Cord Meier –Klodt, designed to emphasize the importance of Germany in Romania’s bilateral economic and political relations.

The two interlocutors agreed that the bilateral agenda included substantial and stronger enough elements for Romania and Germany to continue to implement the joint political projects and especially the economic ones. Germany is the second largest investor in Romania and a German company is the biggest employer in Romania.

Prime Minister Mihai Tudose outlined that the two countries would further develop the projects within the already existing economic partnership and would make sustained efforts to remove the eventual obstacles in this respect.

The Head of the Romanian Executive and the Ambassador of Germany defined as strategic project, the first wide - ranging economic and military cooperation between Romania and the German company Rheinmetall, a complex project, with prospects for both countries.

Ambassador of Germany to Bucharest, H. E. Cord Meier –Klodt expressed Germany’s full support for strengthening Romania's economic growth trajectory, and increasing its role in Europe, especially in the context of Romania’s preparedness for taking over its first presidency of the EU Council in 2019. At the same time, Ambassador Cord Meier-Klodt underlined the importance of maintaining predictability and transparency, a favorable investment climate and the country's reform direction towards a Europe of shared values.

Another project deemed as important within the cooperation between Romania and Germany, was the re-launch of dual education as a concrete solution to the lack of qualified labor force, which had been already felt by German employers, but also by other employers in general.

As a conclusion of the meeting with the Ambassador of Germany to Bucharest, H. E. Cord Meier –Klodt, Prime Minister Mihai Tudose emphasized the relevance of some periodic consultations with the ambassadors of Romania’s main economic partners. Germany is Romania’s main trade partner, the volume of Romanian –German economic exchanges amounted to EUR 26.16 billion in 2016, representing 21 percent of Romania’s foreign trade volume.
