Prime Minister Viorica Dancila met with the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila had today, March 8, a meeting with the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić who is paying an official visit to Romania.

During the talks, the two officials addressed topics of common interest, such as: the stage of bilateral cooperation, including at sectoral level, the Republic of Serbia’s EU accession negotiations process, as well as recent developments at regional level.

On this occasion, the President of the Republic of Serbia extended invitation to the Romanian Prime Minister to pay an official visit to his country.

During the meeting, the two officials appreciated the level of the political dialogue between Romania and Serbia and the upward trend in the bilateral economic relation and trade exchanges. Measures to support businesspeople from the two countries were also discussed in this context. Elements pertaining to governmental policies and political promotion at bilateral level as well as gender equality promotion in central and local administration were also discussed.

The two senior officials discussed at length the  subject of interconnections in the field of transports and in the energy sector, essential in drawing the two economies and the two countries’ citizens closer, in ensuring energy security. In this context, the possibility to resume railway traffic on Timisoara –Varset route was mentioned too.

There were at the same time addressed subjects on urban infrastructure cooperation, supporting the growth and regional development poles, and the capitalization on the bilateral agricultural cooperation potential – topics that can be found on the regional cooperation agenda and the Danube Strategy related Agenda.

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila reconfirmed Romania’s firm political support for Serbia’s European path and its readiness to share its expertise in the EU negotiation process.

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila hailed the appointment by the two countries of the chairpersons of the Joint Commitee for minorities.

The Head of the Romanian Executive also expressed the need to continue the dialogue regarding the Romanian minority in Serbia, using the existing bilateral mechanisms. Ensuring and observing the rights of persons belonging to national minorities, especially those concerning access to mass media, education and religious service in the mother tongue, are essential for preserving the specific identity of Romanian ethnics.
