Prime Minister Viorica Dancila received Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković at Victoria Palace today. The Croatian official is paying an official visit to our country.

The interlocutors reviewed the bilateral agenda, the desire of strengthening political, economic relations and cooperation at sectorial level being outlined on this occasion. They underlined the existing potential in this respect in areas such as: education, internal affairs, defence, agriculture, minorities’ protection. The two sides voiced their interest in holding a joint government meeting.

The two officials also highlighted the importance for the bilateral relation of Croatian minority in Romania and the Romanian community in Croatia.

During the consultations, both dignitaries expressed their satisfaction over the increase in bilateral trade by 25 percent in 2017, compared to previous year and they voiced hope that this trend will continue.

The two Prime Ministers tackled cooperation between the two states in European context, including from the perspective of the two countries’ membership of the trio of EU Council presidencies, a mandate they will hold for the first time since accession to the EU. In this context, they noticed the convergent positions regarding EU future,  which will create the possibility of promoting an European programme to support the unity and cohesion of the European project over the ensuing period. At the same time, they expressed their intention to play a constructive role in the negotiations and decisions which will shape the future of the European Union.

As regards Brexit, the Romanian official underlined the special importance attached to the implementation of the aspects agreed in the Withdrawal Agreement as regards guaranteeing the rights of the European citizens from Great Britain.

With respect to the future post -2020 Multiannual Financial Framework, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila stated that Romania regards with utmost interest the proposals launched by the European Commission on May 2, both from the point of view of the need to support investment objectives at EU level, to stimulate the Union-wide convergence as well as from the angle of role of the future Presidency of the EU Council, which will have to manage this negotiation dossier.

The two dignitaries emphasized the importance of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, as well as of the joint projects development.

Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă reiterated the importance that Romania attaches to the Republic of Moldova and the development of the European path of the neighboring state.

The two senior officials expressed both sides’ interest regarding the stability and security of the Western Balkans region and reiterated their firm support for the continuation of EU's enlargement process, underlining the importance of maintaining the credibility of the enlargement policy in relation to the candidate and aspiring states.

On the occasion of this visit, the two Defence Ministers signed, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Romania and Prime Minister of Croatia, the "Declaration of Intent between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Croatia on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the area of defence and security."
