Prime Minister Viorica Dancila received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Srdjan Darmanović

Today, Prime Minister of Romania Viorica Dancila received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro Srdjan Darmanović, who is paying an official visit to Bucharest.

The visit occurs exactly one year after Montenegro’s accession to NATO, an objective that Romania backed actively during negotiations. During the talks, the Romanian Prime Minister emphasized the major importance of this clear strategic option of Montenegro which reconfirms the validity of the Open Door policy in the run-up to this year's NATO Summit.

The meeting highlighted the very good level of the bilateral relationship and the potential for its sustained development. Both sides underlined the importance of encouraging and capitalizing on the opportunities identified in order to diversify and deepen the areas of cooperation, especially in the field of economic cooperation.

As regards Montenegro’s European path, the Romanian Prime Minister reconfirmed the firm support for Montenegro's EU accession on its own merits, with the firm fulfillment of all the accession criteria. The Head of Bucharest Executive underlined that the enlargement policy will be on the agenda of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU and pointed out that Romania will be an active and constructive partner for the Western Balkan states during its tenure.
