Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă's official visit to the State of Qatar

Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă had a meeting with the representatives of the leadership of Qatar Investment Authority, Qatar Foundation and of the Qatari Businessmen Association

 

During her official visit to Doha, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila had a meeting today, November 7, 2018, with the chairman of the Qatar Investment Authority(QIA) Mr. Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud. The Head of the Bucharest Executive presented to the President of QIA, the sovereign fund of Qatar, established in 2005, playing an important part in the shaping of "The National Vision 2030" of this state, the main projects the Romanian state wants to develop under a public-private partnership, which she mentioned that are guaranteed by the Romanian state.

Later on, the Romanian Prime Minister had a meeting with the leadership of the Qatar Foundation, a non-governmental organisation that supports the development of the next generations of leaders of the State of Qatar, by focusing on the fields of education, research and community development.

The meeting occasioned an exchange of opinions on the current status of the bilateral relation between Romania and Qatar, with emphasis on such sectoral elements represented by health, education and culture. The Romanian Prime Minister voiced her appreciation for the activity of the Qatar Foundation in the education and women's rights fields, by evoking the special efforts of the organisation to establish schools and universities especially dedicated to women in the State of Qatar. At the same time, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila voiced Romania's interest in creating a regional research-development center in biology and biomedicine, considering the vast experience of Qatar in this field. The Qatari side voiced interest in cooperation in the research and innovation field and invited Romanian students to participate in the programmes organised by the foundation.

In the context of her desire to strengthen economic relations between the two states, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila had a meeting with Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, the President of the Qatari Businessmen Association, who offered a dinner in honour of the Romanian Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă attended a business forum held in Doha, State of Qatar

Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă chaired today, November 7, 2018, an economic forum organized in Doha, on the occasion of her official visit to the State of Qatar. The event gathered together numerous Qatari businesspeople whose delegation was led by the first Vice Chairman of Qatar's Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mr. Mohammed bin Ahmed Bin Towar Alkuwari.

The economic forum pursued the promotion of projects in public – private partnership approved by the Romanian Government, as well as the analysis of prospects for Romanian – Qatari bilateral cooperation, with emphasis on economic and investment collaboration. The Romanian Prime Minister pointed out the interest to deepen and diversify the economic relations, including by strengthening relations between the two states’ business sectors. Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă underlined the recent regulation and implementation of the public –private partnership law which opens us new economic cooperation opportunities between Romania and its partners.

The Head of the Romanian Executive outlined the fact that the State of Qatar is an important commercial partner of Romania in the Gulf region, and she presented the main investment opportunities in Romania. At the same time, Prime Minister actively encouraged the Qatari businesspeople to invest in sectors of interest for our country, such as: infrastructure, agriculture, tourism and healthcare, presenting a series of priority projects. In this respect, the Romanian Prime Minister mentioned the geostrategic position of our country and the upward trend of the Romanian economy over the last years, as arguments to support the attractiveness of the Romanian investment market.

The first Vice Chairman of the Qatari Chamber of Commerce and Industry highlighted the very good bilateral relation between the two states, since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1990. He mentioned the Qatari side’s openness to stimulating the investment relations and the desire to boost trade excahnges between the two states.

 Mohammed bin Ahmed Bin Towar Alkuwari presented at the same time the way the Doha authorities managed to turn the economic blockade imposed on Qatar in 2017 in a way to boost the economic growth. Thus, by expanding the maritime routes, interconnecting ports and boosting businesspeople to achieve investments in the industrial sector, the State of Qatar managed to create new production units and boost the investment opportunities for foreign partners.

Both the Romanian Prime Minister and the first Vice Chairman of the Qatar’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry extended invitations to businesspeople to visit Romania, Qatar respectively, to take stock of the current cooperation potential between the two states, voicing at the same time the strong belief that the economic forum will contribute to boosting trade relations and mutual investments between the two states.

Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă met with H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister of the State of Qatar

 

Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă had today, November 6, 2018, a meeting with H.E. Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister of the State of Qatar.

The two senior officials voiced appreciation for the level of bilateral cooperation and agreed on the importance of continuing demarches to strengthen economic cooperation,  and on the need to expand cooperation in key sectors of national economies, such as: transports, healthcare, agriculture and tourism.

Reflecting the Romanian Government’s commitment to strengthening Romania’s relations with the Arab world, Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă commended the Doha authorities’ openness towards the states that are beyond the traditional cooperation realm, including Romania. Prime Minister outlined that our country has an attractive business environment, improved through the recent legislative changes, such as those brought to the law on public –private partnership and encouraged the more robust presence of Qatari companies in the Romanian economy.

The Romanian Prime Minister stated that the national authorities’ demarches to ensure a climate of peace and security for the citizens of the two states should be doubled by sustainable national plans of economic development, with clearly shaped objectives. At the same time, the Romanian dignitary mentioned the symbolism of year 2018, namely the anniversary on December 18, 2018, of 140 years since the establishment of the State of Qatar, and the centennial anniversary of the Romanian modern state.

The Qatari Prime Minister welcomed the convergence in approaching the topics of interest of the bilateral relationship, and also the perspective of Romania’s taking over the presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first semester of 2019. The Qatari Prime Minister thanked for the constant balanced position which Romania’s representatives in the European Parliament expressed regarding the dossiers of interest for the Qatari side. Prime Minister showed interest for a more robust presence of Qatari companies in Romania and for investments in key sectors of the Romanian economy, underlining the importance of agreeing an articulate mechanism of business meetings, including by organizing economic forums, conducive to strengthening the bilateral relationship on this dimension.

The meeting occasioned an exchange of opinions on topics of common interest on international and regional agenda. Thus, the Romanian Prime Minister showed that Romania will back and further promote the political settlement of regional disputes, based on dialogue and negotiation. Prime Minister Viorica Dancila stated that in the context of Romania’s assuming the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union, our country will plead for intensifying efforts to promote peace and security in this region, as well as for maintaining a constant dialogue between EU and the Gulf Cooperation Council. In this context, Prime Minister stated that establishing a solid commercial bridge between the Gulf arab states and the European Union  will contribute to the identification of new concrete cooperation projects with benefits for both sides.

The two Prime Ministers attended the signing of three documents of bilateral cooperation in the fields of agriculture, tourism, and cooperation between the Diplomatic Institutes of the two states.

The meeting was followed by a working luncheon hosted by Qatari Prime Minister, in honour of of the Romanian dignitary, at the Amir’s palace. During the afternoon, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila will pay a visit to Baladna, the largest farm in the State of Qatar, at 60 kilometers from Doha.

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila met with His Excellency Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar

 

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila had today, November 6, 2018 , a meeting with His Excellency Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, in the opening of the official visit to Doha.

During the meeting, the senior officials sought to identify the best ways to deepen bilateral economic and sectoral co-operation, and to exchange views on security developments at regional and international level.

His Higness Emir Al Thani highlighted the openness displayed by the State of Qatar towards the intensification of bilateral co-operation with Romania, including by increasing the level of economic and commercial exchanges, and invited the Romanian side to propose concrete areas for interaction to be discussed at the Doha meetings both within a governmental framework and the business-to-business dialogue.

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila reaffirmed her and the Romanian Government's commitment to strengthening Romania's relations with the Arab world as a whole, an objective highlighted in the Programme for Government 2017-2020, which provides for intensifying political and diplomatic efforts in this direction. Prime Minister deemed that the bilateral relationship with the State of Qatar is at an important stage of its evolution, which the Romanian Government intends to make the best of, for mutual benefit. The senior dignitary showed that Romania has a stable and predictable economic situation, voicing interest in co-operating with the Qatari side in priority areas such as: infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture and tourism.

The meeting also occasioned an exchange of views on topics of common interest in international and regional affairs. In this context, Prime Minister Dancila reiterated Romania's support for the resumption of dialogue between the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, a very important organisation for the regional security architecture. Romanian Prime Minister also pointed out that Romania, that will take over the six-month rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union on January 1, 2019, will continue to attach special importance to the development of relations with this region, while promoting the political settlement of the disputes in the Middle East and North Africa.
