Prime Minister Viorica Dancila met with her Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila had a meeting with her Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, on her official visit to the State of Israel.

The two officials mentioned the traditional friendship relations between the two countries and highlighted the excellent level of bilateral relations between Romania and the State of Israel, based on a 70-year tradition.

The Romanian Prime Minister voiced satisfaction over the interest showed by Israel in the Romanian proposal regarding the conclusion of a Romania -Israel partnership in the field of new technologies, which will allow the drawing up of joint projects in its main areas, namely: research, healthcare, telemedicine, high-tech entrepreneurial innovation, all of which will stimulate the mutual interest of the two countries’ business communities. Aspects regarding co-operation in the military, strategic areas and in cyber security were also discussed in this context.

The interest of both countries in holding the third joint high-level government meeting (G2G) in 2018 was highlighted, while underlining the necessity to organize some business contacts.

During the talks, the two officials referred to the existing good co-operation in the multilateral collaboration format, including as regards the mutual support for candidacies

The Israeli Prime Minister hailed the adoption by Romanian Government of a framework launching the debate on relocating Romania’s Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila visited Yad Vashem

 

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila visited today the Yad Vashem Memorial, where she attended the Eternal Flame Lighting Ceremony, laid a wreath in the Hall of Remembrance and signed the guestbook.

The visit represented an opportunity to reiterate Romania's commitment to penalise all forms of anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial. In this context, the Romanian Prime Minister mentioned that Romania plans to open a National Jewish History and Holocaust Museum, with support from Israel and the Yad Vashem Institute.

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila had a meeting with Ambassador Colette Avital, Secretary General of the World Jewish Restitution Organization and chairwoman of the head Center of Organizations of Holocaust Survivors in Israel. On this occasion, the issue of the restitution of Jewish properties which were abusively confiscated by the Communist regime, was approached, and co-operation within the Working Group set up with the Romanian Government on the restitution of Jewish properties related issues, and the pensions for the Holocaust survivors was also mentioned.

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila had a meeting with Isaac Herzog, Knesset Opposition leader.

The two officials mentioned the traditional friendship relations between the two countries, and outlined the excellent level of relations between Romania and the State of Israel, both at political level and at the level of sectorial cooperation. In this context, the two officials reviewed the current developments and the political prospects home, in Romania, and Israel, respectively.

The exchange of views with Isaac Herzog occasioned the review of the stage of Romanian – Israeli parliamentary cooperation and proposals to boost relations between the legislative forums of the two countries were examined. The very good level of bilateral dialogue was mentioned, with emphasis on cooperation projects envisaged for the ensuing period.

A special theme on the meeting agenda was highlighting the role of Romanian-born Israeli community to building the modern State of Israel, as well as to strengthening the relations between the two states.
