Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă met with the U.S. business sector representatives


Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă attended on Saturday, March 23, a working luncheon with the representatives of U.S. companies that have investment in Romania, as part of her visit to Washington DC.

Members of the management of Amgen, Motorola Solutions, ExxonMobil, Oshkosh Defense, Parsons, Merck (MSD Pharma), UiPath, Textron/Bell and AMRO were among the attendees.

During the meeting, the Romanian Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the transatlantic partnership for the prosperity and economic security of Europe and the United States, highlighting the fact that strengthening this tie is one of the Romanian Presidency of EU Council’s objectives.

Moreover, Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă reaffirmed Romania’s desire to strengthen and deepen the economic dimension of the Strategic Partnership with the United States. In this respect, Prime Minister presented the measures adopted by the Romanian Government with a view to boosting the competitiveness of the Romanian business environment and extended them the invitation to invest in Romania. The representatives of U.S. companies expressed their interest to pay a visit to Romania in June 2019, following the presentation by the Romanian Prime Minister of the opportunities that our country offers in a number of areas such as: healthcare, energy, research and innovation, information technology and communications.

Furthermore, the U.S. investors commended the measures taken by the Romanian Government regarding the increase of the state budget designed to healthcare and infrastructure investments as well as the opportunities to increase the strategic defence industry. The constant dialogue between the Government of Romania and the investors was also mentioned within the meeting, and the representatives of the participating companies voiced appreciation for Ministers’ participation in investment forums organized by U.S. companies.

The talks also addressed the latest amendments to the legislation regarding the Public Private Partnership, with highlights on the fact that it includes extended contractual terms and allows a more flexible funding, as well as the sharing of benefits and risks between the public and private partner.

Another widely debated topic during the meeting aimed at the successes registered by the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council on a set of important dossiers for the development of the business environment.

Last but not least, Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă thanked the United States for the support granted for Romania’s accession to Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) while highlighting the benefits which this demarche could bring to the U.S. companies developing business in Romania. 


Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă will pay a visit to the United States on March 23-26, 2019, to attend the Conference of the American –Israelian Committee for Public Policies (AIPAC). The visit takes place following an invitation extended to Prime Minister of Romania by AIPAC President Morton Fridman and AIPAC Executive Director Howard Kohr.

This visit reflects the intensification of the bilateral dialogue and is in line with the Romanian Government’s consistent efforts to strengthen and develop Romania’s partnerships with the United States and Israel.
