Romania and Bulgaria will continue cooperation on joint projects

Vice Prime Minister Ion-Marcel Ciolacu met today at Victoria Palace with a delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria, led by its chairperson, Dimitar Borisov Glavchev.

The agenda of the talks included topics of interest such as: intensification of the bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries, support for joint projects in infrastructure, energy security (BRUA project), tourism, communications, programs related to the Western Balkans or the Danube Strategy, migration, as well as strengthening cooperation relations at the Parliament level. "We need to establish joint projects and to join forces. We need to have a common voice, because that is how we will stand to gain, " stated Vice Prime Minister Ion-Marcel Ciolacu.

The officials of the two states outlined the need to develop the infrastructure between Romania and Bulgaria and to extend the projects to ensure the link with Greece. The Romanian Vice Prime Minister mentioned the good relations existing between Romania and Bulgaria, voicing his belief that the two states would continue the joint projects on the Danube Strategy.

During the meeting, it was highlighted the good collaboration between the Romanian and Bulgarian Prime Ministers as well as between the Ministers in charge of preparing the takeover of the rotating presidency of the EU Council. Minister - delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu, present at the meeting, emphasized that Romania and Bulgaria have many converging points on European issues, and holding the EU Council presidency can enhance cooperation and friendship between the two neighboring countries.

Regarding the Western Balkans, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria expressed his country’s readiness to share with the states in the region the common experience gained on the road to EU accession. "We have to show the European perspective to the countries that want to join the EU," said Dimitar Borisov Glavchev, Chairperson of the National Assembly of Bulgaria.

Minister-delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu and State Advisor Florin Vodita attended alongside Vice Prime Minister Ion –Marcel Ciolacu, the meeting at Victoria Palace, the Bulgarian delegation included, alongside chairperson Dimitar Borisov Glavchev, representatives of all political groups in the Bulgarian Parliament.
