The signing ceremony of the first procurement contracts of radiotherapy equipment for five centers across the country

The first five oncology centers, equipped with complete radiotherapy systems purchased with support from the World Bank


The Centers for treatment of patients with oncology diseases within Constanta County Hospital, Galati County Hospital, Baia-Mare County Hospital, Bucharest Oncological Institute "Prof. Dr. Alexandru Trestioreanu "and the Elias Emergency University Hospital will be equipped with complete radiotherapy systems totaling 11 million lei.

Contracts for the endowment of the five radiotherapy centers were signed today at Victoria Palace by Health Minister Florian Bodog and the representative of the supplier company Elekta Limited UK,Jaroslaw Lange. The ceremony took place in the presence of Vice Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, the Minister of Public Finance, Ionut Mişa, the President of the Constanţa County Council, Horia Ţuţuianu, the President of the Galati County Council, Costel Fotea, the President of the Maramureş County Council, Gabriel Zetea, and the managers of the beneficiary centers.

The equipment will be purchased under the World Bank Loan Agreement, which provides EUR 38 million for the purchase of radiotherapy equipment.

In the next phase of this project, three more centers will be equipped with radiotherapy equipment for patients with oncology diseases currently at the end of the evaluation phase. These are the radiotherapy centers within the Oradea Municipal Hospital, the Craiova County Hospital and the Oncological Institute prof.dr. I. Chiricuţă Cluj Napoca, for which tendering procedures have already been launched.

"It is the first time Romania invests in radiotherapy. We have a healthy economy, we have the biggest economic growth in Europe, we must also have investments in healthcare, in order that the beneficiaries, the citizens of Romania, benefit from the highest applicability standards, Vice Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu stated.

Minister of Public Finance Ionuţ Mişa and Minister of Health Florian Bodog emphasized that all these procurements represent a first step in Romania's hospitals retechnologization project, part of the Government Program. After the endowment of the above mentioned centers with complete radiotherapy systems, the revamping program of the hospitals in Romania will continue with the endowment of each county hospital with CT and MRI equipment, also based on the agreement with the World Bank.
