06 Nov

Ludovic Orban: Good afternoon! Welcome to the first governmental briefing, following the first meeting of the Cabinet invested by Parliament. I will be very brief.

After consulting with President Klaus Iohannis, we made the decision together to send to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, two candidates for the position of European Commissioner - they are MEPs Siegfried Muresan and Adina Valean.

I can also inform you that, according to the legal provisions, I will send to the Chairs of both Chambers of Parliament a request to approve hearings in the specialized committees of the Romanian Parliament, either of the two candidates or of the candidate to be picked by the President of the European Commission, the hearing date is to be established by the leadership of the two Chambers. I have another announcement to make, regarding the two appointments for the most important offices in the working structure of the Government. Mr Ionel Dancă will hold the office of Head of Chancellery. He started activity today. I also made the decision of appointing Mr Antonel Tănase as Secretary-General of the Government who will start the activity on November 8, when the decision on removal from office of the current Secretary-General takes effect. The current Secretary-General handed in his resignation based on which I will issue the removal from office decision.

I will let the new Head of Chancellery to present you the two normative acts that were on the agenda of the Cabinet meeting. I have to attend the office takeover ceremony of the Finance Minister. At the next governmental briefing, I will be available to answer your questions. I let Mr Ionel Dancă answer your questions. Ask him questions to which he has the possibility to give suitable answers.

Reporter: At least a clarification on the portfolio. We will go for the same transport portfolio or we choose the EU enlargement one?

Ludovic Orban: As regards the possibility of changing portfolio, in this case, it will surely be a discussion between the President of Romania, me as Prime Minister and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. Thank you!
