The Government adopted the National Strategy to promote active ageing

Whereby a Decision adopted today, the Government adopted a National Strategy to promote active ageing and protection of the elderly for the period 2015-2020, and the Strategic Action Plan for 2014-2020.

The normative act aims at establishing a strategic framework regarding the promotion of active life, being established three objectives: extending the active life, promoting active social and dignified participation for the elderly, and obtaining a higher degree of independence and security for people with long care needs.

Within the first strategic objective, prolongation of active life, there are considered measures to strengthen the public pension system reform, amendments of human resources policies for a better integration of elderly workers and flexibility of labor legislation provisions, jobs creation for elderly, as well as improving the abilities, hiring capabilities and elderly independence.

The third objectives considers the creation of the unified long - time care system, at institutional level, through setting up a department within MMFPSPV, but also through revision and improvement of the legal framework to accredit and monitor all types of service providers in the area. There is also aimed at securing financial, human and physical resources for the ILD system.

Transversal objectives of the Strategy aimed at: 1. Delay of physical ageing and the incidence of chronic diseases 2. Preparation of the health system for services provided to the elderly population. In the first case, there will continue the increase of "vice tax" and allocation of proceeds towards funding public health programs, reducing unhealthy behaviors, strengthening prevention, improving access to health services for marginalized communities. Regarding the health system preparedness for services provided to elderly, there is envisaged the increase in the number of specialists in geriatrics, development, financing and implementation of community services and home care for patients with high dependency with chronic diseases.
