The Interministerial Committee for the coordination of Romania's relations with the OECD met today, at the Victoria Palace, with the participation of the OECD Secretariat delegation that is visiting our country these days, part of a mission to officially launch OECD accession discussions with Romania.
The discussions focused on the current state of Romania's demarches in the accession process, with an emphasis on the drafting of the Initial Memorandum, and a presentation of the implications of this process for the Romanian state.
On this occasion, the representatives of the national institutions and authorities, members of the Interministerial Committee for the coordination of Romania's relations with the OECD, addressed specific, technical questions to the OECD representatives in the open Q&A session at the end of the event.
In turn, the members of the OECD Secretariat delegation encouraged the representatives of the Romanian institutions and authorities with responsibilities in the accession negotiations to maintain a constant dialogue with the Organization's experts, to ensure the technical details on which the completion of the stages provided for in the accession process depends.
The meeting at the Victoria Palace was attended by representatives of several ministries and the State Secretary for Global Affairs and Diplomatic Strategies, Cornel Feruță.

Accession to the OECD is a major objective of Romania's foreign policy, also included in the Programme for Government. After the decision of the OECD Council, from January of this year, to launch the accession negotiations with Romania, another important step was the adoption of the Accession Roadmap, at the ministerial meeting of the OECD Council on June 10 of this year.
The OECD accession process represents an opportunity to implement the best practices and standards of this intergovernmental forum, with all the economic and political advantages that arise from membership, alongside countries that hold more than 70% of global production and trade and 90% of the global foreign direct investment.
The Interministerial Committee for the coordination of Romania's relations with the OECD, whose national coordinator is the Prime Minister, is made up of representatives of all institutions that participate in the activity of OECD structures or manage collaboration programs with this organization.
