Cabinet meeting of September 16, 2022

[Check against delivery]

Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă: Good afternoon. It is the second Cabinet meeting we hold this week and I start it by thanking the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, for the favourable opinion on Romania’s first financing request under the PNRR(Recovery and Resilience Plan), worth 2.6 billion euros, money due to enter the country. It is very important to emphasize that so far, money from the European funds, alongside money from direct foreign investment amount to nearly 15 billion euros. This money, in this challenging time from the economy and security point of view, helps us keep the economy functional and helps us carry out what we assumed under the PNRR, the entire process of reform and modernization of Romania, at the same time with the Government taking on the fulfilment of the objectives related to OECD accession.

This positive approval of the first payment request is because we managed to meet the goals and milestones that were on the list of objectives. This is what the government needs to do in the next period as well, in a very serious manner. There are objectives and tasks that we have discussed every time and we will continue to discuss them in this process of meeting milestones and targets, and each ministry is responsible for meeting them. We are also considering submitting our second request for payment in October, to make sure that we have met the requirements in terms of the coherence of the PNRR implementation. It is very important to address these topics and it is very important to keep the government agenda at the level of each ministry separately on the list of priorities with these objectives. Today, we will carry out what we undertook at Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting, namely, we approve the Government Decision on the methodological norms for the enforcement of the provisions of Government Ordinance no. 105 on the continuation of the pilot program on the food support for pre-schoolers and pupils in 350 schools. I am sure that the Education Ministry will take measures so that the schools chosen are those that need this program which should cover in a unitary and balanced way the entire country, each county separately where indeed, there is a greater need for it. We also approve the Government Decision of the Labor Ministry providing for norms to implement Law 196/ 2016 on minimum inclusion level. Now, we start the Cabinet meeting. Thank you.
