Message from Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă following the publication of the European Commission report on progress in Romania under the CVM

It is with satisfaction that I received the European Commission report on progress in Romania under the CVM. It notes, for the first time, the fulfillment of the Mechanism recommendations and objectives, as was foreseen in the Decision establishing the CVM, adopted at the time of Romania's accession to the EU.

For the Government of Romania, this report and the developments it entails encourage us to stay the course in supporting the independence of the judiciary, and the anti-corruption fight, in a sustainable manner and with continued good results, for the benefit of Romanian society. All of these are essential as they meet the expectations of Romanian citizens.

Based on today's report, Romania's monitoring will take place just like in the case of the other EU member states through the European Rule of Law Mechanism.

The report is also a recognition and a confirmation at the European level that the direction of the reforms we have consistently pursued lately is the right one.

Also, given that the Commission's evaluation is based not only on recent developments but, obviously, on the continuous accumulation of progress that Romania has achieved since the establishment of the Mechanism, the report is an important recognition of the maturity reached in the functioning of the competent institutions.

We have not walked this road alone. We have constantly benefited from the very pragmatic cooperation with the experts of the European Commission. The competent Romanian authorities have maintained a cordial and constructive dialogue with them, which will be continued on the same basis of openness and trust within the European horizontal instruments in the field.

Fifteen years after accession, the report conclusions reflect Romania's efforts and entering a logic of strengthening our European status. We remain firmly anchored in Romania's clear and long-term pro-European vision, a European vision based on unity, democracy, the rule of law, and the values shared equally by all member states, based on the same instruments.
