Prime Minister Ludovic Orban had consultations today with the representatives of the trade unions and employers’ organizations within the National Tripartite Council for Social Dialogue, on the economic and social measures required to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19.
The discussions focused on solutions to preserve jobs and maintain the viability of activities from as many economic sectors as possible.
Prime Minister announced that, in tomorrow’s meeting, the Government will adopt the first set of measures to support companies and employees from the affected sectors. "We will give a strong signal to the employees and the economy: The Government will intervene to preserve jobs and maintain the activity continuity in as many economic sectors as possible. In addition to the decisions we will make in tomorrow's meeting, we will continue to take measures on which we will consult with the representatives of trade unions and employers', highlighted the Head of the Executive.
The set of measures to be analyzed and adopted by the Government tomorrow aims at:
Increasing the companies’ liquidity;
Supporting the payment of technical unemployment by companies for the employees who will temporarily suspend their activity;
Reducing the direct interaction of citizens with state institutions, a measure in this respect was the local taxes deadline extension;
Fostering the production capacity for as many goods as necessary during this crisis, personal protective equipment and disinfectants respectively.
Prime Minister Ludovic Orban emphasized that personal protective equipment for the employees of sectors on the frontline of combating the spread of COVID -19, are purchased and will be provided. He stated this in the context of the trade union representatives’ concern regarding measures to protect workers.
The Government’s consultations with the representatives of the National Tripartite Council for Social Dialogue will continue within a permanent mechanism, the trade unions and employers are about to take part in completing the necessary solutions to mitigate the economic and social effects of COVID-19 epidemic.
