[Check against delivery]

Ursula von der Leyen: Good morning. It is a huge pleasure and honour to have the Romanian Prime Minister here today. Ludovic Orban, what a pleasure to see you here today, what a pleasure to have you here at the European Commission, I think, the very first time in this official function. So, it is very happy that we are going to have the chance of a bilateral meeting today. A lot of topics are on the agenda. Of course, we are going to discuss your plans for the economy, your plans to reform the justice system which is important, there are a lot of challenges,  but of course, you know that you always do have the Commission at your side, and of course, we have started already to talk about the topics that are of common interest, be the European Green Deal or be, as I said, the development of the economy, but also to make Europe fit for the digital age. And in this topic, I count very much on Romania because you have a very excellent reputation in that is concerned. So, I am very much looking forward to our talks, and I am happy that you are here. Very welcome!

Ludovic Orban: I am glad of the opportunity to have this first meeting with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, in my new capacity as Prime Minister of Romania. It is an excellent opportunity to present to the European Commission President, the positive developments in Romania, the fact that Romania is a serious partner, a responsible partner, committed to achieving the EU objectives and implementing the regulations adopted by the European institutions. Of course, we will have the opportunity to discuss very important issues regarding the EU’s future, issues of concern regarding the new EU budget, in which we very much want the same attention to be further paid to the cohesion policy, and the common agricultural policy.

We also wish special attention to be paid to each country within the Green Deal and support to be indeed extended to each country, in order to attain the objectives which are basically set out in this very ambitious Green Deal sought by the European Commission. Certainly, we will further present our objectives related to Romania's accession to Schengen, also our objective to put into practice the recommendations of the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism, in order that we succeed to conclude this mechanism in the shortest time possible. Things are very clearly known, basically, important events took place in Romania, which changed profoundly and for the better the Romanian realities, it is clearly known that both the President of Romania and the Government of Romania are deeply committed to achieving the aforementioned objectives.

Ursula von der Leyen: OK. Thank you so much!
