Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă’s visit to Transavia SA, Alba County

PRESS RELEASE

Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă: What I have seen in Alba makes me confident that Romanian producers are able to offer quality food to the market

Today, Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă visited Transavia, a private company with full Romanian capital whose object of activity is poultry meat production and processing.

In talks with the company's management, the prime minister hailed the sustainable business model, based on good practices and protocols in the production and distribution chain, able to ensure quality products for consumers.

"What I have seen today in this company, the technology and the equipment they are working on, makes me confident that Romanian producers are able to provide the market with quality products and to be partners in the Government's efforts to guarantee food safety. It is a business model that the Government encourages to be replicated by the business environment ", stated the Head of the Executive.

An important component of the “Support for Romania” Program is the support of agriculture and the food industry, strategic areas with substantial weight in the Romanian economy.

"We recently decided in the Government to make available to Romanian farmers 300 million euros grants for the working capital, a measure to support agriculture and food industry, which will help reduce the impact of rising staple products prices. A high-skilled labour force is needed to achieve performance. For this reason, we supported and approved in the Parliament another measure of the "Support for Romania" Program, which set the minimum wage in agriculture and food industry at 3,000 lei per month, "said Prime Minister Ciucă, in his talks with Transavia representatives.

The Prime Minister added that another measure will be introduced to encourage the processing of raw materials in Romania. Under a state aid scheme to be approved by the Government, farmers will have 200 million euros at their disposal, a legislative solution that will help ensure the needs of the internal market and reduce the pressure on food stocks and prices.

The measures for agriculture and the food industry included in the "Support for Romania" package have been established following consultations with farmers, employers' associations and agricultural unions.

Transavia has invested in the sustainable development of its business in Romania and is an employer with over 2300 direct jobs.

The company has a significant role in local and regional economic development by prioritizing procurement from local or international suppliers based in Romania (approximately 90% of the 1800 suppliers), as well as by locating farms in eight counties across the country.

As of 2019, the company publishes sustainability reports and has assumed standards to be a co-signatory of the EU Code of Conduct on Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices.

Prime Minister is accompanied in his visit to Alba County by the Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Mircea Abrudean.
