On February 19 -21, Prime Minister of Romania will pay an official visit to Brussels where she will have meetings, with the European Council President Donald Tusk, with the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani and with the European Commission President Jean –Claude Juncker. Prime Minister will also hold talks with the European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu.

The visit’s main objective is to intensify Prime Minister’s and the Romanian Government’s dialogue with European institutions, at the highest level, in the perspective of Romania’s taking over the Presidency of the Council of the EU, on January 1, 2019.

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila will present Romania’s priorities for the next period, with emphasis on the main European dossiers. Thus, there will be approached subjects such as: the post 2020 multiannual financial framework of the Union, including regarding Romania’s role in the future negotiations. Prime Minister will emphasize the importance that Romania attaches to maintaining important allocations for the cohesion policy and the agricultural one.

Aspects pertaining to strengthening the European project, internal security, EU Neighborhood, and deepening the Economic and Monetary Union will be also discussed as well as elements of interest in view of 2019 European elections.

Romania’s commitment to contributing in a constructive manner to coping with current challenges and the consolidation of the EU’s unity and cohesion, including through ensuring an efficient mandate that would allow the delivery of positive results during our tenure at the helm of the presidency of the EU Council.
