Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă’s meeting with the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz
Prime Minister Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă had a meeting today, April 3, 2023, with the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz who is on an official visit to Romania.
The Federal Chancellor’s presence in Bucharest reflects Germany’s high interest in deepening the bilateral partnership with Romania, in the spirit of a strategic, consistent, and pragmatic political–diplomatic relationship.
During the meeting, the two dignitaries highlighted the commitment to intensify the Romanian – German substantial relationship within a structured framework designed to confer ampler visibility to the bilateral relationship and the strategic projects of sectorial cooperation.
Prime Minister Ciucă appreciated Germany’s dynamic support towards the finalization of Romania’s accession process to the Schengen area. Attaining this objective in the shortest time possible remains essential for Romania, based on our country’s recognized contribution to the EU’s internal security, and the steps and coordination with European partners to create favorable conditions to attain this goal, continue in a very active manner.
In terms of opportunities to deepen economic and sectoral cooperation, the Prime Minister encouraged partnerships and exchanges of expertise in the industrial and technological areas. The business sector dynamics generate its attractiveness for new investments, especially in the energy, food, and digital sectors which have significant potential in Romania.
The two dignitaries confirmed the importance of continuing the EU enlargement process and fulfilling the commitments towards the Western Balkans. At the same time, they expressed their firm support for the continuation of consistent political and financial support aimed at strengthening the Republic of Moldova’s resilience and security.
The parties also addressed the dynamics of cooperation within the European regional formats such as the Three Seas Initiative (I3M). Prime Minister Ciucă referred to the opportunities of participating in investments in the projects developed within the Initiative and recalled that Bucharest will host the I3M Business Forum on September 7, this year.
